English abstract:
transformation architecture is based on the course Bionics - Natural Constructions taught by Petra Gruber at the Institute for Design and Building Construction 2, headed by Prof. Helmut Richter, at the Faculty of Architecture and Regional Planning of the University of Technology in Vienna.
The course is part of an advanced graduate programme in membrane constructions and has taken place since 2001.
After an introduction to the theory of bionics, students are required to apply an example of a natural phenomenon to a technological, preferably architectural problem in the practical part of the course. If they do not develop a specific design in the process, they will present their research in a structured form. Students are free to choose the examples as well as the technological applications.
The following analysis of the examples and their applications will aim to provide a method of categorising the natural models based on how well they lend themselves to application in architecture, construction and design. It will also describe different types of bionic transfer or transformation.
Our vision is to develop a set of methods for the successful transfer (at least in architecture) of natural models to high quality technological applications.
