English abstract:
"TRANSCRIPTS OF AN ARCHITECTURAL JOURNEY: Musings about a new genre in [space] architecture" is a project funded by the Austrian Chancelory of Art. The project team includes young architects, designers and engineers from Austria, India, Germany and the USA.

The point of departure for this project is the new genre in space architecture introduced in 2002 by the European Lunar Base Design Workshop hosted at European Space Agency´s ESTEC Center in The Netherlands.

The project is based on the premise that the 1st genre in space architecture comprises of concepts introduced through science fiction books (voyage d´ esprit) and films, the 2nd genre encompasses the spaceships designed and built by engineers and designers in government-run space agencies (man-in-a-can). The 3rd genre (trans-gravity), still in its very early stages and the focus of this project, is in the making and will be shaped by architects and designers currently focusing on Earth but expanding their activities into space.

This project is an endeavor in architectural research to better understand how this new genre in space architecture will impact the shape of things to come. The project aims to better define this new genre in order to facilitate a dialogue between the architecture and design community, the space agencies and the industrial contractors responsible for building our future space habitats and products.

Above all, for those involved, the project is a `journey´ to contemplate, explore and discover various aspects of and relationships between terrestrial and space architecture.
