English abstract:
`Rebel architect´ Will Alsop speaks at İstanbul conference
Prominent British architect Will Alsop, known for his trademark use of bright colors and unusual forms in his avant-garde designs, will speak at a conference in İstanbul tonight as part of a series of conferences titled "Arkimeet," organized by the Arkitera Architecture Center.

Dubbed a "rebel architect," Alsop is known for a style that pushes the boundaries of modern architecture. The influence of the 1960s pop art movement is strongly visible in the designs of Alsop, a graduate of London's prestigious Architectural Association School of Architecture. His practice, guided by the principle that architecture is both a vehicle and a symbol of social change and renewal, extends from individual building designs to the broader topic of city development.
Alsop is also known for his work in the areas of painting and sculpture, in which he follows a parallel path with his architectural philosophy. He was a tutor of sculpture at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, London, for several years. His paintings and sketches have been exhibited alongside his architectural projects in exhibitions at Sir John Soane's Museum, London; the Milton Keynes Gallery; CUBE, Manchester; and the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, among others.

Alsop's İstanbul lecture will take place at the Harbiye Military Museum and Cultural Complex tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information visit www.arkimeet.org
