English abstract:
In the last decades communities and planners try to (re-)create mixed use urban fabric. Though the positive contribution of mixed uses indisputable for all actors of the urban development, the recreation and preservation process has many problems and obstacles. The starting point of the work is the following thesis: ' use mixture makes city: Without symbiotic and synergetic coherence of the urban functions and activities in small scale, 'the city ' can not be (re-)created and sustained. In the first chapter deals with the current developments in urban planning and the different implementation methods of mixed use development . The following capital reviews the historical progress of european city in the context of urban diversity.

At the end a comprehensive target packet is worked out, which contains concrete improvement aims refers the different layers and scales of urban development . The final outlook on the future European cities and add a list of necessary actions to create a mixed used built environment
