English abstract:
WORKSHOP 13: Generative Geometry Based on Human Behaviour by Richard Schaffranek (Vienna University of Technology, Department of Building Theory and Design) , Michael Vasku (architect)

Topic: Generating and analysing architectural - urban design, using models describing the behaviour of humans, based on or operating on graphs (i.e. space syntax, way finding, social interaction, neighbourhoods...).

Learning: Participants will receive a brief introduction into graph theory and behavioural models that are based or operate on graphs (i.e.: Angular Segment Analysis1, Segregation2...). These methods have been used to understand existing phenomena´s and urban configurations and to analyse proposed masterplans and building layouts, but not as generative tool. Basing design assumptions on such models and given the right environment these methods can be utilized to generate and control complex geometry (i.e. the levels that can be explored in the game Labyrinth Runner; further examples can be found at www.gbl.tuwien.ac.at/Archiv/digital.html). For the workshop the environment is Grasshopper and the `SpiderWeb´ plugin.
