English abstract:
Will Alsop OBE RA is a world-renowned architect and designer.
Celebrated for his inventiveness, collaborative approach and ethos for
living well, Will Alsopīs global projects span all sectors - from metro
stations to museums and hotels across the UK, continental Europe,
the Americas and the Far East. He is also Professor of Architecture at
the Technical University in Vienna and University of the Creative Arts
in Canterbury, UK.
Alsop put himself on the map advising Hamburg local authority on the
master planning of their docks in the 1980s.
In the 1990s, amongst other projects, he re-invented Cardiff Bay with
his barrage design, built the striking award-winning HQ for the French
government in Marseilles and won the Stirling Prize in 2000 for Peck
-
ham Library, London.
Alsop then went onto design RIBA Award-winning schemes at Queen
Mary University London and Ontario Collegeīs Sharp Centre of Art
and Design, Toronto. Considering himself first and foremost an artist,
painting is an integral part of his design process, helping him to disco
-
ver and explore ideas which later become forms, evolving into his un
-
forgettable schemes. A Royal Academician, Alsop has more recently
completed award-winning schemes in London, Manchester, Toronto,
Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore.
Recent examples of Alsopīs work include 142-apartment scheme
'Chips', Manchester; and 'Calypso', Rotterdam. He is currently working
on large scale residential builds in China, London and Toronto.
Today, Alsop is Principal of multidisciplinary firm ALL Design, based in
Battersea, London.
